About us
A water company for people who are tired of being told a number
Mountain Water Co. is owned by Zane Clevenger and based in Morgantown. We fit water softeners, whole-home filtration, iron and sulfur treatment and reverse osmosis drinking water across Monongalia, Marion and Harrison counties, on town supplies and on private wells.
How we work
We start with your home, not a brochure
It is the wrong way round to pick a system first. Two houses on the same street can need different builds — one on the town main, one on a well a hundred feet down — and nothing on a brochure tells you which one you are.
So it starts with a phone call or the form. Tell us what you are seeing and whether you are on city water or a well, and we will tell you which system fits, what it costs, and whether you need anything at all.
A well in this part of the state is its own problem
Get a few miles outside Morgantown, Fairmont or Clarksburg and public water runs out. Well water here can carry iron that stains everything it touches orange, manganese that does the same in black, and hydrogen sulfide — the rotten-egg smell that turns up in the hot tap first.
None of those three is hardness, and a water softener on its own does not fix any of them properly. That is the single most common thing we expect to have to explain, and it is the reason we ask about your water before we talk about equipment.
We will not quote you a figure we made up
There is a whole industry of web pages confidently telling you the hardness of your town’s water, and a striking number of them are published by companies selling softeners. Where a utility publishes its own figures we will show you them and say where they came from. Where it does not, we will say that too, rather than borrowing a number from somebody with something to sell.

What we stand on
Three things we do not bend on
We listen before we recommend
Not a guess off a chart, and not a number from somebody else's website. The right system depends on your home and your water — whether you are on a town supply or a well, and what you are seeing — and in this part of the state, plenty of people are on a well.
A town supply and a well are different jobs
A softener alone is the wrong answer to iron, to manganese, or to a rotten-egg sulfur smell. Treating those needs a different build in a different order, and we would rather explain that than sell you a softener and watch it fail.
We will tell you when the answer is no
Sometimes the water is fine and the appliance is simply old. We would rather say so than sell a system that changes nothing — a new company cannot afford a single customer who feels sold to.

Find the right water system
Call or fill out the form and tell us what you're seeing — scale, stains, a smell, city water or a well. We'll tell you which system fits your home and what it costs. There's no system that fits every house, and sometimes the answer is that you don't need one.
